In trecut SD Cardurile de memorie pentru aparatele foto si aparatele video digitale erau de 2 – 4 GB. Tehnologia a evoluat si SD Card-urile au ajuns la capacitate mai mare de 32GB. Sistemele de operare Windows Vista, Windows 7 si Windows Server 2008 R2, pana in urma cu cateva zile nu puteau citi aceste carduri de memorie care au peste 32 GB. La "Properties" apar alte valori de volum decat cele reale ale cardului.

The capacity of a Secure Digital (SD) card that is larger than 32 GB is reported incorrectly in Windows Vista and in Windows Server 2008.
In Windows 7 and in Windows Server 2008 R2, the capacity of SD cards that are equal to or lower than 32 GB is calculated correctly. However, for SD cards that are larger than 32 GB, the high bits are shifted incorrectly by 6 bits instead of 16 bits. Therefore, the capacity is calculated incorrectly.

Pentru a rezolva aceasta problema Microsoft a lasat un update (Windows Update) optional pe care posesorii de asemenea carduri il pot instala.
